675 kilometres, walked in the sections that actually fit a holiday.
The Jordan Trail runs 675 kilometres from Umm Qais to Aqaba and takes about forty days end to end. Most people do not have forty days. The good news is that the trail was stitched together from paths villagers already used, so it breaks cleanly into pieces - an oak forest above Ajloun, a rim walk over Mujib, the copper-coloured descent from Dana to Feynan that is the section everyone remembers. Walk them north to south, in this order, and you will have seen the spine of the country without quitting your job.
The northern trail at its greenest: evergreen oak, strawberry trees peeling red, six hours at conversational pace.
Rasoun to Mar Elias is a genuine trail section. Two days, village houses, and gentle walking throughout.
The trail crosses the Mujib gorge here. From the rim you understand why that takes a whole day.
Fourteen kilometres downhill from Dana village into the Feynan copper country. The famous section, and it earns it.
The wetter way into Feynan. Spring water, oleander, and nine hours of walking with your boots submerged.
Same descent, slower, with a night in the reserve. Choose this if 1,300 metres in one day sounds unwise.
The trail's last act crosses Wadi Rum. Burdah sits just off-route and is the best detour on it.
